David Parks
David Parks of Weston, West Virginia, for going above and beyond in his heroic rescue of two people from a burning home. On July 17, 2005, Parks, a deputy sheriff, saw thick smoke coming from the residence next door to his mother’s and immediately responded by entering the house and ascending the stairs after hearing voices on the second floor. Despite a blanket of smoke, Parks fearlessly crawled on his stomach across the floor until he felt the leg of the man. When a second party entered the residence, Parks had them take the man out of the building to safety while he wet a towel and ran back into the smoke and found the woman at the rear of the residence. Parks then led her down the stairs and out of the burning house.
