Marc Ellison

Marc Ellison of American Fork, Utah, for going above and beyond with the bravery he exhibited during a dangerous rescue of a three-year-old girl. On September 24, 2006, Ellison, a part-time park ranger, helped to save the life of a little girl who had fallen down the steep mountainside at the exit of Timpanogos Cave National Monument. One man had already died trying to save the little girl when Ellison and a fellow rescuer worked their way slowly through the treacherous terrain to the girl without ropes, safety gear, or concern for their own lives. Ellison held and comforted the girl for over two hours until rescue helicopters arrived. His quick and heroic actions saved the young girl’s life that day, made all the more remarkable by the fact that Ellison was recovering from a bone marrow transplant at the time of the rescue.
