Alan Berger of New York has been recognized for his dedication to improving the quality of education for children in America. He was a teacher and assistant principal in the NYC public school system when he founded the Brooklyn Free School. As a director and teacher, Alan’s vision incorporates more applied learning experiences into schools, which are operated on a consensus decision-making process. He believes the democratic process is a useful means for developing each child’s ability to control their own learning and personal development. His work fosters community involvement and personal responsibility. Alan Berger continues to be an inspiration and credit to the state of New York and to his fellow Americans.
