Rev. Gloria White-Hammond, M.D.
Rev. Gloria White-Hammond, M.D., of Boston, Massachusetts, for going above and beyond as a pastor, physician, and humanitarian activist. White-Hammond shows her commitment to helping the disadvantaged on a global level with her organization, My Sister’s Keeper, a faith-based, multi-racial international collective of women working together to improve the lives of enslaved women in Darfur. Today, more than 10,000 Sudanese women and children celebrate their freedom because of White-Hammond’s efforts. Closer to home, as a co-pastor with her husband of Bethel AME Church and as a pediatrician at the South End Community Center, she has devoted her time and energy to helping others in the Boston area. Among her many contributions to her community is her church-based mentoring ministry called “Do The Write Thing,” which gives high-risk African-American adolescent females in Boston public schools and juvenile detention facilities an opportunity to express themselves creatively through writing.
