Colette Pinchon Battle
Colette Pinchon Battle of Slidell, Louisiana, for going above and beyond with her efforts to help those displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Pinchon Battle was practicing law and operating a consulting business that helped women, minorities, and immigrant entrepreneurs in Washington, D.C. when Hurricane Katrina devastated her hometown of Slidell, Louisiana. Stirred by the plight of her townspeople, Pinchon Battle moved back to Louisiana and founded “Moving Forward Gulf Coast,” a non-profit that is helping to rebuild houses and lives in the ravaged area. Working to empower the community through advocacy, training, and creative programming, Pinchon Battle and her organization have provided housing to thousands of people who had lost their homes and their hope.
