Indiana

Kathryn Martin

Kathryn Martin of Evansville, Indiana, for going above and beyond with her mission to help others in their most desperate times of need. In 2005, an F3 tornado blew through Indiana, killing Martin’s 2-year-old son, C.J. Since then, she has worked tirelessly to get C.J.’s Act passed in the state of Indiana, which mandates all manufactured homes be equipped with NOAA Weather Radios. The Act passed unopposed in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2007. Not satisfied to stop there, Martin created C.J.’s Bus, a 40ft custom bus with 280 square feet of play area for children. The bus travels to sites to care for children who have been impacted by natural disasters.
