Sabrena Lary
Sabrena Lary of Thompson, Connecticut, for going above and beyond with her courageous rescue of a drowning man. While on a high school field trip in 2000, Lary witnessed a homeless man fall off a pier into Boston Harbor. Lary watched in disbelief as people just stood and stared at the helpless man. With complete disregard for her own safety, she quickly jumped into the water to help the unconscious man, holding his head above water for 10 to 15 minutes until emergency services arrived. The Massachusetts police have credited her actions for saving the man’s life.
